Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi Annual Day of Service

People weeding and shoveling mulch at Kalaeloa Heritage Park

This year, Kalaeloa Heritage Park was selected as a work site for Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi’s Annual Day of Service. This work day was a long time in the making as we were supposed to host it in January but had to cancel due to the omicron surge.  On Friday, June 10th, about 20 volunteers from Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi came to the park to help us plant, water, weed, and mulch. The volunteers ranged everywhere from IT personnel and administrators to lab technicians and yes, even doctors!

One of the best parts of this work day was getting to know the Kaiser Permanente team and how they connected with the park since most of them had never heard of or been before. Kawika Lauriano, Parks Maintenance Manager, said, “It was a pleasure to work with the Kaiser team and share the history of Kalaeloa. I appreciated all the work they did since it helps us continue to preserve this ancient landscape.”

Mahalo nui to Patricia Cole, Rommel Del Mundo, and Azure Lwin-Maluo from Kaiser Permanente Hawaiʻi for helping to coordinate this event. We hope to see you again soon!

If your organization is interested in hosting a work day at the park, please email Kawika Lauriano (klauriano@kalaeloaheritagepark.org).
